Key games & last-minute Pick’em thoughts
Here’s a closer look at two of the matchups on the slate if you’re trying to finalize your card before the deadline.
Indiana vs. Ohio State
This matchup has the makings of a modern Big Ten championship game: two offenses capable of piling up yards, quarterbacks who can stretch the field, and defenses that bend more than they’d like when pressured by tempo.
Why Ohio State may be the play: The Buckeyes have been the steadier unit across the season, especially up front. Their run game has found rhythm behind an improving offensive line, and their defense has been better at limiting explosive plays. If Ohio State controls the trenches, they can dictate pace and wear down Indiana over four quarters.
Why Indiana can hang around: Indiana’s offense has enough vertical juice to force Ohio State into uncomfortable spots. A few early chunk plays can create a faster, higher-possession game than the Buckeyes prefer. In that kind of script, Indiana’s ability to push the ball downfield gives them a real chance to keep this within one score and threaten a late backdoor.
Spread lean: With the line sitting at Ohio State –5.5, there’s a reasonable case for Indiana to cover. Ohio State is the more complete team, but in a game that could open up offensively, Indiana’s big-play ability sets up a path to stay inside the number even if the Buckeyes control most of the night.
Georgia vs. Alabama
This one feels like a classic SEC heavyweight fight: physical fronts, smart quarterback play, and two defenses talented enough to change the game with a single mistake or takeaway.
Why Georgia may be the play: The Bulldogs have been more reliable drive to drive, particularly on defense. Their front seven has tightened up late in the season, and their offense has been efficient at sustaining long possessions. If Georgia controls the line of scrimmage and forces Alabama into third-and-long situations, the matchup leans their way.
Why Alabama can hang around: Alabama still has enough offensive explosiveness to stress Georgia vertically. A couple of early shot plays or broken-field gains can tilt momentum and force the Bulldogs into a higher-paced game than they prefer. In that script, Alabama’s athleticism at quarterback and receiver gives them a real chance to make this a one-possession battle deep into the fourth.
Spread lean: At Georgia –2.5, this projects as a tight, possession-by-possession game. Georgia’s consistency gives them the edge, but Alabama’s big-play ability keeps the door open for them to cover or even steal it late. Taking the points with Alabama is a reasonable angle in what profiles as a close matchup from start to finish.
