Key games & last-minute Pick’em thoughts

Here’s a closer look at three of the biggest matchups on the slate if you’re trying to finalize your card before the deadline.

USC vs. Oregon

This one has the feel of a classic Pac-12-style shootout, even though both teams are now in the Big Ten: big-time quarterbacks, explosive receivers, and defenses that can be stressed vertically.

  • Why Oregon may be the play: The Ducks have been more consistent on both sides of the ball, especially in the trenches. Their offensive line has protected the quarterback well and opened lanes in the run game.
  • Why USC can hang around: USC’s offense is still dangerous enough to flip a game in a handful of plays. A couple of deep shots early can force Oregon into a track meet where a backdoor cover is live.

Pick’em lean: Since the line on Fanatics currently sits at USC to win or cover 11 points, there’s value in taking USC. Oregon is the more complete team, but in a fast-paced game with lots of possessions, USC has enough firepower to stay within the number.

Tennessee vs. Florida

A rivalry matchup where momentum swings fast and emotions run high, perfect for a Pick’em slate.

  • Tennessee’s case: When the Vols stay balanced offensively, they’re dangerous. A steady run game and timely play-action can set the tone.
  • Florida’s case: Florida’s defense can dictate games when it generates pressure without blitzing. If they get Tennessee off schedule, they can force mistakes.

Pick’em lean: In a close spread, this comes down to which team you trust more at the line of scrimmage. If Tennessee has the edge up front, lean Tennessee to cover. Florida is catching more than a field goal at home, and there’s value in taking the points with the Gators.

BYU vs. Cincinnati

Not the flashiest matchup, but exactly the type of game that swings these Pick’em entries.

  • BYU outlook: BYU thrives on physical play and controlled, methodical drives. If they avoid turnovers, they can dictate pace.
  • Cincinnati outlook: Cincinnati’s defensive ceiling gives them a chance to cover. Winning on early downs and forcing BYU into predictable passing situations is their path.

Pick’em lean: BYU is a slight home favorite, and leaning BYU to cover makes sense given their physicality and crowd advantage.
