FanDuel launched a new responsible gaming feature that uses machine learning to alert customers when a deposit appears out of step with their historical behavior.

The company debuted its “Real-Time Check-In” Wednesday at the SBC Summit Americas in Miami during a panel on responsible gaming.

“Now, we’re able to use machine learning to provide a new level of support through Real-Time Check-In, encouraging customers to reflect on how much money they’re depositing and if it’s within their budget,” said Cory Fox, FanDuel‘s senior vice president of public policy and sustainability.

How Real-Time Check-In works

The feature uses customer-level data, including gameplay, bonus history, withdrawals, and deposit trends, to forecast a user’s expected deposit on a given day. If a customer attempts to deposit significantly more than what the system predicts, they receive an in-app alert before the transaction processes.

The first level of alert is a prompt suggesting the deposit is higher than expected, offering the option to lower the amount or proceed. A second, more robust prompt requires the user to either reduce their deposit or set a deposit limit before continuing.

FanDuel staff monitor repeated alerts for individual accounts and may flag them for additional review, Fox confirmed.

FanDuel builds on success of MySpend

The new tool builds on FanDuel’s existing “MySpend” feature, which offers customers personalized reports of their spending and has shown early success in promoting player budgeting. This past NFL season, roughly 3.5 million users, about half of FanDuel’s customers, used MySpend.

Fox cited internal data showing that players engaged with MySpend were more likely to set limits and reduce harmful behavior.

Flutter’s larger global RG strategy

Real-Time Check-In is modeled after a similar system used by SportsBet, FanDuel’s sister company under Flutter Entertainment in Australia. The debut reflects Flutter’s strategy of adapting player protection learnings from international markets into its U.S. operations.

“Deposit is a key moment in the customer journey,” Fox said. “This tool meets them there with actionable information, in real time.”
