How Damien Martinez could get over 50 rushing yards
Taking on the Hokies, Martinez will face a defense that’s allowing 181 rushing yards per game, including 212 on the road. So far this season, in four games, the Hokies have allowed eight running backs to go for 50+ rushing yards.
Martinez leads the team in carries with 40. He also has 194 rushing yards (4.9 yards per carry) and four touchdowns.
How Damien Martinez could get under 50 rushing yards
Martinez has a great matchup here, but the Hurricanes have used other running backs, such as Jordan Lyle, Mark Fletcher Jr., and Ajay Allen.
Martinez had 65 yards in Week 1 and 95 in Week 2. However, he had just three rushing yards on three carries in Week 3 and 31 in Week 4 on 11 carries. Despite being the starter, he could be supplanted statistically by the collection of running backs behind him.
How Kyron Drones could get a passing TD
Miami has a great defense, but the Hurricanes have also only played Florida, Florida A&M, Ball State, and South Florida.
This season, Drones has thrown a touchdown in three of four games. The Hokies are 19.5-point underdogs, which could lead to more passing. This season, Drones is averaging more than 25 attempts per game.
How Kyron Dones could not get a passing TD
The Hurricanes haven’t played a lot of difficult competition, but they have yet to allow a single passing touchdown this season. They held Florida quarterbacks Graham Mertz and DJ Lagway to about 120 yards passing combined. They did allow South Florida quarterback Byrum Brown to throw for 254 yards, but again, he didn’t throw a touchdown.
Drones is coming off a game against Rutgers where he had no touchdown passes. Additionally, he is a great runner, with more than 250 rushing yards, which could lead to additional run attempts to keep Miami off the field.
