Tipico Sportsbook is no longer available in the US. The German betting company stopped taking new accounts, deposits and wagers on June 26, 2024, after agreeing to sell its US sportsbook platform to LeoVegas, a subsidiary of MGM Resorts. Every Tipico customer account in Colorado, Iowa, New Jersey and Ohio was closed as part of the wind-down, so there is no longer a Tipico promo code or welcome bonus to claim.
The good news for former Tipico customers is that the US market has no shortage of established sportsbooks. Below are the operators we recommend right now, along with a look at what happened to Tipico and how to choose a replacement.

What happened to Tipico Sportsbook?
Tipico, headquartered in Germany, is one of Europe’s best-known betting brands. It entered the US through a market-access partnership with Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and later added Colorado, Iowa and Ohio, where it served as the official sports betting partner of MLS club the Columbus Crew. The company also ran an online gambling product in New Jersey, and in July 2021 Tipico also inked a deal with USA Today to provide sports betting content and odds.
Despite those partnerships, Tipico never captured a significant share of the US market. In June 2024, LeoVegas announced it would acquire Tipico’s US sportsbook technology platform and key team members, with plans to use that technology to power its own sportsbook products internationally. The Tipico-branded sportsbook and casino were not part of the long-term plan:
- June 24, 2024: LeoVegas announced the acquisition of Tipico’s US sportsbook platform.
- June 26, 2024: Tipico stopped accepting new registrations, deposits and bets in the US.
- Third quarter of 2024: The deal was expected to close, with all remaining customer accounts shut down by that point.
Customers were encouraged to settle open bets and withdraw their balances in the months before the accounts closed. If you believe you’re still owed money from a former Tipico account, contact the gaming regulator in the state where you held the account.
How to choose a Tipico replacement
Tipico’s app was known for a clean layout, fast withdrawals and early cash-out options. Most leading US sportsbooks now match or exceed those features, so the right replacement depends on what matters most to you:
- Welcome offer structure: Some books pay bonus bets after a small first wager, while others refund a losing first bet. Pick the format that fits how much you plan to bet.
- Ongoing promotions: Look for daily odds boosts, parlay boosts and loyalty rewards for existing customers.
- Payout speed and banking: Compare withdrawal times and supported methods such as PayPal, online banking and prepaid cards.
- Market depth: If you bet on NFL betting markets, golf or niche international sports, check how many props and alternate lines each book offers.
- Live betting and cash-out: Former Tipico users who liked cashing out early will find partial and full cash-out at most major books.
Opening accounts at more than one online sportsbook also lets you compare odds and take advantage of multiple welcome offers.
Where can I bet on sports legally?
Legal sports betting has expanded well beyond the four states where Tipico operated. These states and districts have regulated sports betting markets, though the mix of online and retail options varies:
- Arizona
- Arkansas
- Colorado
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Kentucky
- Louisiana
- Maine
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Michigan
- Mississippi
- Missouri
- Montana
- Nevada
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- New York
- North Carolina
- Ohio
- Oregon
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- Tennessee
- Vermont
- Virginia
- Washington, DC
- West Virginia
- Wyoming
You must be at least 21 to bet in most states, and you need to be physically located in a legal state when you place a wager.
