BetMGM Ontario launch and partnerships
BetMGM Sportsbook was available in Ontario as soon as online sports wagering kicked off in the province in early April 2022. It received approval from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario a few weeks before the market launch
Within days of debuting in Ontario, BetMGM announced an expansion of its partnership with the NHL into Canada, a deal that should help the sportsbook increase its exposure in a competitive landscape. BetMGM is also affiliated with The Hockey News, a Canadian magazine.
How to sign up at BetMGM Ontario Sportsbook
The registration process at BetMGM Ontario is straightforward and intuitive. To start, head to the BetMGM Ontario sportsbook’s website and select the registration button in the top right corner. The application form is pretty basic. You’ll need to provide the following details:
- Login credentials
- Full name
- Birthday
- Occupation
- Address
- Cell number
Once you supply the necessary information, you’ll need to agree to the terms and conditions and confirm that you’re 19 or older. The sportsbook is geo-fenced, so while you can access your account from anywhere, you’ll only be able to bet from within the province.
Account verification
Once you’ve signed up, BetMGM will review your information. The sportsbook may request proof of ID and/or address if it can’t confirm your personal details. If this happens, you’ll need to upload a photo and identification. Here are some of the documents you can use — you don’t need to provide all of them, these are just some examples of acceptable docs:
- Canadian ID card/national ID
- Driver’s license
- Passport
- Bank statement
- Mobile bill
- Utility bill
After you submit the verification documents, BetMGM will process them within 24 to 48 hours. Once you get the thumbs up, you can deposit and start betting. The entire process is simpler than it sounds, and if verification is not required you will have the option to get started almost immediately.
Downloading the BetMGM Ontario betting app
If you want to place bets with BetMGM Ontario while on the go, you can download the app for iOS or Android. To do that, head to the BetMGM site on mobile, open the main menu and select the sportsbook app. Doing so will take you to the download page on the App Store or Google Play Store, and you can proceed from there.
To use the BetMGM app, you’ll need to enable location tracking and perhaps install the geolocation app GeoComply. When you try to place a bet, a pop-up may appear, asking you to install the software. Once you’ve installed the app, you will have to allow it permission to track your location.
Best features of BetMGM sports betting app
BetMGM is one of the better all-around sportsbooks in Ontario. It rarely had any issues in our testing and generally performed well across the board. Here are some of the main areas where it stood out during our review:
User experience
BetMGM sports betting delivers a strong user experience on both its website and app. In this regard, it’s comparable to DraftKings and FanDuel, two of the more user-friendly sportsbooks.
The interface is sleek and modern. Upon loading the site, you’ll see a familiar layout that most books use today. The platform is feature-rich, but lays everything out intuitively.
The gold and black color palette is visually clean. Plus, there’s a search bar on the right, so you can locate any sport, bet or feature.
Above the bet slip on the right, you’ll find a drop-down menu for live streams. Neither FanDuel nor DraftKings have live streaming options easily accessible from the homepage (you’d have to find it via the live betting platform.) A play-by-play tracker and a stats chart are adjacent. These can provide valuable insights when you can’t watch the game live.
Features
Aside from common features like cashing out early and live streaming, BetMGM has also introduced several tools that aren’t available elsewhere. These primarily include Easy Parlay and Edit My Bet.
With Edit My Bet, you can customize your running parlay with a cash-out option. This feature can be useful if you have a last-minute change of heart regarding your remaining selections. Alternatively, if you feel good about your unsettled picks, you can put a few more dollars down on those games. You can edit, swap, remove, or increase the stakes of unsettled selections in parlays.
In the Easy Parlay tab, you’ll find a list of the odds for upcoming games. These highlight three basic bets: moneylines, spreads, and totals. You can use this to view and access individual bets for your parlays quickly.
Range of sports
BetMGM’s betting program is hard to beat, diversity-wise. In terms of coverage, it’s right there with DraftKings, offering odds on around 24 sports, depending on the time of year. In addition to mainstream options, BetMGM spreads a range of things like golf, Formula One, soccer, and tennis. Several niche sports are in the mix, including all-Canadian lacrosse, cricket, biathlon, and volleyball.
Live betting on the BetMGM Sportsbook app
The “live” tab showcases in-progress games. With odds on at least as many sports as its competitors, BetMGM’s live betting platform is quite expansive. Depending on the time of year, you may find basketball, baseball, soccer, and tennis, to name a few.
The live offerings at BetMGM have good depth, as well. You can bet on the outcomes of specific segments (quarters, halves, innings) or the scorer of the next touchdown. Winning margin props are also available on most basketball games, along with the race to X points.
The odds and lines update fairly quickly. Red and green arrows indicate fluctuating odds. Both the betting menu and your slip will display these pointers.
Basic bets available on the BetMGM betting site for Ontario
The BetMGM betting program offers a full range of standard bets:
- Moneylines: Bet on the winner of a particular game. A negative line indicates a favorite.
- Toronto Raptors -150 over Orlando Magic
- Totals: Bet whether the game’s total (combined points for both sides) will go over or under a line that BetMGM sets. The odds are generally symmetrical but can skew slightly to one side.
- Total over 210.5 (-115)/total under 210.5 (-110)
- Spreads: To cover the spread, the favorite must win by more than the number. Underdogs must lose by less or win outright.
- Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 (+145) over the Boston Red Sox
- Props: Exotic wagers on individual aspects within a game. This can be player-based, team-based, or game-based.
- LeBron James to record a triple-double +250
- Patrick Mahomes to score the first TD +650
- Futures: Long-term props on winners of seasonal awards or championship series.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win the Super Bowl +750
- Alternate lines: The extension of BetMGM’s original spread and total lines.
- Chicago Bears +6.5 (-110) to Chicago Bears -3.5 (+230)
- Parlays: Combo bet that includes multiple wagers. The odds increase with each selection (leg) that you add.
- Jacksonville Jaguars +3.5 (-110) over Washington Commanders
- Philadelphia Eagles -4.5 (-110) over Detroit Lions
- Cleveland Browns -1.5 (-110) over Carolina Panthers
- Total parlay odds: +596
- Teasers: Similar to a parlay, you can adjust the lines in your favor in exchange for shorter odds on a bet with multiple legs.
- Los Angeles Lakers -5.5 over Boston Celtics to Lakers -2.5
- New York Knicks +3.5 over Miami Heat to Knicks +6.5
- Live bets: Betting on the action that has already begun.
- Toronto Raptors to win the first quarter (-110)
Single-game parlays at BetMGM Ontario
In a similar fashion to its major rivals, BetMGM offers SGPs, which it refers to as one-game parlays. BetGenius supplies the product, allowing you to place bets within the same game. It’s generally only available for major sports.
One-game parlays are just as risky as a regular parlay. For example, if you take the Raptors to win their NBA game on the moneyline and Pascal Siakam to score more than 20 points, both of these legs must hit for your bet to win.
How long does it take to settle a winning bet at BetMGM Ontario?
Most BetMGM bets settle within an hour after the game concludes. The settlement of live bets usually happens much faster.
Player props, game props and more at BetMGM Ontario
BetMGM has a full range of prop bets, including some more esoteric options. Compared to PointsBet, DraftKings and FanDuel, the selection is less versatile, but only by a small margin. Here are a few examples of what you may find:
- Tennis: Will a player trailing 0-1 in sets come back and win?
- Soccer: Result after 75 minutes.
- Baseball: Will Giancarlo Stanton hit a home run in the game?
- Basketball: Which team will get to X points in the game first?
- Formula One: To how many thousandths of a second will the winning time be?
Deposits/withdrawals
When it comes to banking and payment methods, BetMGM online sportsbook does better than most. You can load your account and cash out from it via the following payment options:

Interac enables fund transfers from your bank to your sportsbook account. It’s linked with all major institutions in Canada, including Scotiabank, RBC, Desjardins Group, ATB Financial, and HSBC Canada.
The minimum deposit for all methods is $10, which aligns with industry standards. The processing time for withdrawals is method-dependent. Interac may take one to three business days on average, while PayPal stands out as the fastest option, with a turnaround time of 24 hours or less.
Does BetMGM Ontario pay instantly?
No, but you can get your profit within several hours if you use PayPal. Other methods tend to take longer for withdrawals.
Customer support and responsible gambling
You can reach customer support by clicking the help button. You’ll need to jump through a few hoops before speaking to an agent, working through a series of suggested queries. If the FAQ doesn’t resolve your issue, the sportsbook will offer live chat and email. There is quite a bit of legwork involved, and it can be frustrating if you have a burning issue.
