MGM Inks First MLB Team Casino Sponsorship Deal With Boston Red Sox

The Green Monster will soon meet the MGM lion.

MGM Resorts International announced a multiyear agreement Friday to be the official and exclusive resort casino of the Boston Red Sox.

This is the first team sponsorship deal between a Major League Baseball team, and casino and sportsbook operator. It follows MGM becoming the official gaming partner of MLB in November. It’s important to note that the partnership does not extend to sports betting, at least not explicitly.

“This is such a natural partnership for our two brands,” said Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy. “MGM has set the standard in the hospitality and entertainment industry and their recent expansion into the Commonwealth makes them a clear partner. We are thrilled to welcome them to the Red Sox family and look forward to a long collaboration.”

What the partnership will include

In August of last year, MGM opened its first casino in MassachusettsMGM Springfield — on the state’s southern border with Connecticut.

As official sponsor of the Red Sox beginning with the 2019 season, MGM will:

  • Have gameday signage around the park, including behind home plate, and the MGM Resorts logo appearing on the famous left-field wall affectionately called the Green Monster.
  • Offer exclusive gameday VIP fan experiences at Fenway Park.
  • Host the Red Sox annual Baseball Winter Weekend event at MGM Springfield. The event includes a Town Hall Meeting with Red Sox leaders, autographs and photos with Red Sox players and roundtable discussions on a variety of baseball topics.

MGM leading the way in sports partnerships

In addition to being the legal sports betting partner of MLB, MGM inked partnerships with the NBA and NHL last year. This is the second partnership with a professional sports team in the US for MGM, following one with the New York Jets.
