Week 1 of the NCAA football season is here. While this will be the Boston College Eagles’ first game of the season, the Florida State Seminoles are off to an 0-1 start after losing to Georgia Tech in Week 0 in Ireland. As a result of that loss, the Seminoles saw a dip in their odds to win the ACC.
The Seminoles will aim to turn things around in this game, as the best sports betting sites have lines strongly favoring them. Below, we’ll examine potential scenarios where each team could win.
Florida State favored over Boston College ahead of ACC matchup
How Boston College could win this game
The Eagles face an uphill battle here as they’re the underdog by around 17 points. The team has a new tight end, Kamari Morales, and a wide receiver, Jerand Bradley. Bradley transferred in from Texas Tech, and Morales previously played at North Carolina.
The key for Boston College here could be not turning the ball over and running in a similar fashion to Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets had 190 rushing yards against Florida State in their Week 0 win. Boston College’s starting running back, Kye Robichaux, averaged 4.8 yards per carry on 163 carries in 2023. Quarterback Thomas Castellanos is a dual threat, completing 189 of 330 passes (57.3%) for 2,248 yards, 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions to go along with 215 carries for 1,113 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023.
Robichaux and Castellanos will likely need to run well here while Castellanos stays out of the turnover department.
How Florida State could win this game
At home here, the Seminoles are in a good position to bounce back after their Week 0 loss. However, we’ll need to see more out of the deep passing game. According to Pro Football Focus, Seminoles quarterback DJ Uiagalelei had just three attempts for 20+ yards downfield. Wide receiver Malik Benson hasn’t had much action in his college career, but he is a solid deep-threat option.
The Seminoles have had a lot of rebuilding to do with their quarterback, running back, tight end, two receivers, and several defenders heading to the NFL, but they’ll need to get this offense going. This could be a good opportunity for Uiagalelei to start throwing more downfield to help out his running game, led by Roydell Williams.
