Favorites to win the Big East Tournament
UConn Huskies ()
The Huskies are not only favored to win the Big East championship but also the NCAA Tournament as a whole. Senior All-American guard Tristen Newton is averaging 15.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game. However, this is far from a one-player team. Four other players are averaging double-digit points per game: Cam Spencer, Alex Karaban, Donovan Clingan, and Stephon Castle.
Marquette ()
The Golden Eagles are nearly on par with UConn when it comes to defense, allowing 95.9 points per 100 possessions compared to UConn’s 95.5. However, they’re also dealing with injuries to key players, like Tyler Kolek (oblique), who’s not set to play until the Big East Tournament. Kam Jones leads the team with 16.2 points per game.
Creighton (Eliminated)
In addition to allowing 97.2 points per 100 possessions, per the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings, the Bluejays have plenty of competent scorers. Leading the way is Baylor Scheierman with 18.5 points, 8.9 rebounds, four assists, and one steal per game.
Two other players averaging 17 or more points per game are Trey Alexander and Ryan Kalkbrenner. The team as a whole ranks 44th in the nation in 3-point shooting percentage, knocking down more than 36% of them.
