Top favorites to win the NCAA national championship
UConn Huskies: +550
The Huskies are the defending champions after beating San Diego State in last year’s finale, 76-59. They added freshman Donovan Clingan after Adama Sanogo and Jordan Hawkins left for the NBA. The team also has Alex Karaban, Cam Spencer, and Tristen Newton.
As of Feb. 23, the Huskies are 24-3 and 14-0 at home. They also had a blowout win over Marquette earlier this month.
Houston Cougars: +700
A top-ranked team again this season, the Cougars ran out of magic last season in the Sweet Sixteen. They have two losses this year against TCU and Iowa State, but that’s it. Like last season, the Cougars pride themselves on defense and are led by another point guard in L.J. Cryer. A top-six seed in the tournament would mark their sixth in seven seasons.
Purdue Boilermakers: +750
Coming off a brutal upset last season against Fairleigh Dickinson, the Boilermakers will look to rebound this tournament. This season, big man Zach Edey — who stands seven feet four inches tall — is averaging more than 23 points and nearly 12 rebounds per game. The Boilermakers have already defeated a handful of ranked teams, including Alabama, Arizona, and Tennessee.
