USFantasy was a mobile app for fantasy sports contests in about half the country that ceased operation. The competitive DFS industry leaves few to compete with heavyweights DraftKings and FanDuel.
The company had been planning to release a mobile app for fantasy sports bettors for some time. Nearly a year later the fantasy sports betting app is available but not for its initial target market. The creation of the app was initially geared towards Nevada residents since traditional daily fantasy sports companies don’t operate in Nevada.
In a twist of events, the app was available in 23 states but not Nevada. There’s no timeline when the USFantasy app will be available in Nevada. The app is still awaiting approval by the state’s gaming control board.
The pari-mutuel style DFS app was live in the following 23 states:
- New Mexico
- North Carolina
- North Dakota
- Rhode Island
- South Carolina
- South Dakota
- West Virginia
USFantasy gameplay is different than traditional DFS contests. Instead of choosing lineups player by player, USFantasy bettors will choose individuals from small pre-populated groups of players. Bettors choose which players will finish first, second or third in various DFS contests. This is a twist on the typical DFS that you’d find elsewhere.
The software for USFantasy is made by M2ComSys. In addition to USFantasy software, the company provides healthcare and engineering software for both private and public sectors. The software is different than legal sports betting apps and DFS apps.
The software is quick and responsive and similar to horse racing apps where you would normally select horses to win, place and show. In this case, the bettor selects players to finish first, second or third in selected categories. Instead of wagering odds, the app shows players with projected fantasy points next to their current prize per $1 wagered. There’s a tab to see prize pools for win and exactas similar to horse racing apps.
Since not all contests are the same, each contest has a tab to see the rules and scoring. Overall, the app is easy to use, especially once you understand the unique USFantasy style of play.
Opening and funding an account
Signing up for a USFantasy account must take place through the mobile app. Once the account is created, players will sign up to fund the account using the Play+ prepaid Discover brand debit card via Sightline. The Play+ card may be funded with a credit card, debit card or bank account (AHC).
The process to sign up for an account takes about 15 minutes. USFantasy mobile accounts cannot be set up in person at a brick-and-mortar location at this time.
The minimum deposit is $20.
Withdrawing funds from the account works seamlessly with the credit card, debit card or bank account used to set up Play + account.
Types of wagers
Depending on the contest, USFantasy bettors can select players to win their respective group with the most fantasy points. Similar to horse racing, players can also make exotic wagers including exactas.
Wagers from all 23 states are pooled into together for each group. This is different than the USFantasy pool in Nevada. The Nevada pool is separate. Likewise, the proposition-style wagering available in Nevada casinos is not available with the mobile app. The app is strictly for the DFS style wagering.
The minimum bet is $1 but there may be some contests available for less money. The USFantasy app offers single- and multi-day contests for the following sports:
The USFantasy app was available in the iTunes Store for Apple devices. Android users found a direct download from the USFantasy website.
The app will work on both Wi-Fi and cellular connections. Players may look at the odds and pool information without signing into the app. Bettors will receive direction to sign into account once players are chosen and a wager amount is chosen.
