Portugal is the heavy favorite (-195) to finish ahead of Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Georgia in Group F at the Euros. The Portuguese players won all 10 of their qualifying games in emphatic fashion, and the team has a solid defense, an abundance of technically gifted midfielders, and dangerous forwards, so it is among the favorites to win Euro 2024 this summer.

However, its group stage rivals all boast dangerous forwards, including Turkey’s Kenan Yildiz, Georgia’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Czech striker Patrik Schick. That sets the stage for a series of potentially entertaining battles between the teams in Group F. We go over each team’s strengths, weaknesses, and Euro odds below.

Quick notes on Group E teams

Euro 2024 Group F breakdown

Portugal is currently sixth in the FIFA world rankings. That leaves it well ahead of the Czech Republic (No. 36), Turkey (No. 40), and Georgia (No. 75). The Portuguese are the clear favorites to get the better of their Group F rivals, but they cannot take anything for granted against dangerous opponents.

Portugal

Portugal has a deeper pool of elite attacking talent than any other team in the world. Cristiano Ronaldo is 39 years old, but he remains in superb physical condition. He fired in 10 goals in 10 games during the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, proving that he remains one of the world’s best strikers. Soccer betting sites have Portugal ranked highly to win this group.

Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Otávio, and João Félix form a magnificent supporting cast in the Portuguese attack. If manager Roberto Martínez decides to change things up, he can call upon Liverpool’s Diogo Jota, AC Milan playmaker Rafael Leão, or PSG striker Gonçalo Ramos, so there is an embarrassment of attacking riches on this squad.

Yet there is also defensive steel to match the attacking dynamism. João Palinha is an excellent holding midfielder, Rúben Dias is a world-class defender, Diogo Costa is a reliable goalkeeper, and there are lots of talented young defenders vying for places in the starting lineup. This mix of solid defense and attacking flair allowed Portugal to score 36 goals and concede just twice during the qualifying campaign, which is ominous for the team’s opponents.

Turkey

The Turks will also carry a great deal of momentum into this tournament after winning their qualifying group. They finished ahead of Croatia and Wales in that group, which is an impressive feat.

This is just the sixth time that Turkey has qualified for the Euros. The Crescent-Stars crashed out in the group stage at the last European Championship, so the players will be keen to redeem themselves this time around.

They have a new manager in Vincenzo Montella, who replaced Stefan Kuntz in September 2023. He has some talented youngsters at his disposal, including Juventus wunderkind Kenan Yildiz, Galatasaray forward Baris Alper Yilmaz, and Real Madrid starlet Arda Güler. Experienced players such as Hakan Çalhonoglu, Merih Demiral, and Yusuf Yazici will also get a chance to prove themselves on the big stage, so Turkey could be dangerous at this tournament.

Czech Republic

The Czech Republic suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Denmark in the quarterfinals of the last European Championship. However, results went downhill after that. The Czechs failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, and they were a little fortunate to secure a place at Euro 2024 after finishing behind an unheralded Albanian team in their qualifying group.

Manager Jaroslav Šilhavý was criticized for the team’s poor performances, and he resigned in November 2023. The Czech Football Association brought in Ivan Hašek to replace him. Hašek previously took charge of five games in 2009-10, so it is his second stint with the national team.

The Czechs may lack Portugal’s technical brilliance, but this is a close-knit group that will fight for one another. Hašek recently named his first 23-man squad, and 10 of the players represented the same club: Czech champion Sparta Prague. They are accustomed to playing alongside one another, which will help Hašek form an effective unit. And West Ham’s Tomáš Souček, Fiotentina’s Antonín Barák, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick all add star quality.

Georgia

This is the first major tournament that Georgia has ever qualified for. The Georgians only finished fourth in their group, but that was enough to secure a place in the playoffs. They got the better of Luxembourg in the semifinals, and they then defied the odds to beat Greece on penalties in the final.

Georgia’s star player is Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Napoli winger has earned the nickname “Kvaradona,” as he reminds fans of the late, great Diego Maradona. Kvaratskhelia scored four goals for Georgia during the qualifying campaign, and he will be key to their chances of success in Group F. Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is also highly rated, and he will be busy against the likes of Ronaldo, Schick and Yilmaz.
