Sunday NFL playoff preview
Two NFL divisional round playoff games are set to take place Sunday. Up first, the Cincinnati Bengals hit the road to take on the Buffalo Bills in what could be one of the weekend’s most competitive matchups.
The Bengals are coming off a 24-17 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Wild Card round, in which the Cincinnati defense forced two turnovers while quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 209 yards and one touchdown to lead the team to its ninth consecutive victory. The Bengals have not lost since Octo. 31. Here they’re facing a Bills team coming off a 34-31 win over the Miami Dolphins in the opening round.
Sunday’s action concludes with the Dallas Cowboys heading west to take on the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC. The 49ers got off to a slow start last week, but quarterback Brock Purdy continued to shine as the backup turned starter, and the San Francisco defense clamped down on the Seattle Seahawks for a 42-23 win.
One challenge for the Cowboys here could be protecting the football, as quarterback Dak Prescott has struggled with interceptions this season and now finds himself facing the team that led the league in both interceptions and turnover differential during the regular season.
Ohio sports betting details
Online sports betting officially launched in the state of Ohio on New Year’s Day. The process began when HB 29, a bill to regulate sports betting, passed both houses of the Legislature and Gov. Mike DeWine signed it into law in late 2021. The Ohio Casino Control Commission has already approved more than 20 sportsbooks — including both online and retail — for operation beginning in 2023.
