DraftKings UFC 282 preview

The UFC’s final pay-per-view event of 2022 pits rising contender Magomed Ankalaev against former UFC 205-pound champ Jan Blachowicz in a fight for the light heavyweight title recently vacated by the injured Jiri Prochazka. This marks a bit of a change in plans for both men, as they were originally slated to meet in a three-round fight in the co-main event. Now, due to Prochazka’s shoulder injury, they’ve been tapped for a five-rounder with much bigger stakes.

Ankalaev has blazed a path to the top of the division ever since making his UFC debut in 2018. His lone professional loss came in his first UFC bout, when he got caught in a triangle choke submission by the wily Paul Craig, who defeated him with only one second remaining in a fight that Ankalaev had mostly dominated up until that point. Since then, the 30-year-old from Dagestan, Russia, has been perfect in the UFC, winning nine straight fights, including one five-round decision over former title challenger Thiago Santos.

Blachowicz, on the other hand, has already been to the mountaintop in this division, having won the 205-pound title after Jon Jones vacated the belt in 2020. At 39, Blachowicz isn’t exactly blowing people away with his speed or raw athleticism at this point. He lost the championship via submission to Glover Teixeira in 2021 but earned a TKO win over contender Aleksandar Rakic earlier this year to put himself back in the title conversation.

With almost 40 pro fights stretching out over a 15-year career, Blachowicz is fond of reminding people that his “legendary Polish power” has surprised more than one overconfident opponent in the past. In Ankalaev, he faces a young up-and-comer who’s been touted the heir apparent at light heavyweight and is now hoping to fulfill that promise in his first UFC title fight.

DraftKings currently has Blachowicz as a +240 underdog. Ankalaev is the favorite at -285, with odds that the fight will finish inside the distance at -190. DraftKings also has UFC 282 odds on winning method and round, plus in-fight parlays, round props and more.
