NFL Week 7 matchups and best odds

The Week 7 slate began with an entertaining TNF game in which the Cardinals outlasted the Saints in a shootout. In a perfect world, that contest serves as a mere sneak peek of what’s to come. Here’s what you need to know about each of the remaining matchups and the latest odds for the top pregame bets.

Atlanta Falcons at Cincinnati Bengals

The Falcons continued to exceed expectations with an upset win over the 49ers last week. They’ll be traveling to take on a Bengals team that has been playing much better after a challenging start to the campaign. Both clubs enter at 3-3 as they look to keep pace in their respective conferences. Cincinnati has avoided a scare as top wideout Ja’Marr Chase will be good to go after being limited in practice with a hip injury.

Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys

The Lions enter off of a bye week with a record of 1-4. They’re riding a three-game losing streak that was lowlighted by a shutout loss to the Patriots last time out. Outside of that debacle, scoring points hasn’t been an issue, but preventing opponents from doing the same is another matter. The Cowboys will welcome back Dak Prescott this week. The team is 4-2 and played well in his absence, but they dropped a big game to the Eagles last week.

Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans

This is the second meeting of the year between the teams atop the AFC South standings. The Titans picked up a 24-17 road decision over the Colts in Week 4. Both clubs have turned it around after tough starts. Indianapolis has won its last two, and Tennessee entered last week’s bye on a three-game winning streak. Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines are expected to return for the Colts this week, but Shaquille Leonard is out once again.

Green Bay Packers at Washington Commanders

The Packers are 3-3 and looking to snap a two-game skid after last week’s surprising home upset loss to the Jets. Alarm bells continue to go off in Green Bay. The receiving corps remains an area of concern, while the defense has allowed 20+ points in each of the last three. They’ll travel to face a Commanders team that will have Taylor Heinicke at the helm in the wake of a hand injury that will sideline Carson Wentz for about a month.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers

The Buccaneers were huge favorites for the trip to Pittsburgh last week. They certainly didn’t play that way in a 20-18 defeat. The offense was unable to get going against a depleted Steelers secondary. Tampa Bay will try to get right against a Panthers team that has all but thrown in the towel. The housecleaning continued with the trades of Robbie Anderson and Christian McCaffrey. PJ Walker gets the start again in place of the injured Baker Mayfield.

New York Giants at Jacksonville Jaguars

The Giants are 5-1 after last week’s upset win over the Ravens and will take a three-game winning streak on the road to Jacksonville. Saquon Barkley is second in the league in rushing yards. He’s also doing his part in the passing attack as the club continues to sort through a wave of injuries at wide receiver. The Jaguars have cooled off immensely since opening at 2-1 and dropped their last three, falling on the road to the Colts last week.

Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens

Nick Chubb leads the league in rushing yards, but the Browns as a whole are struggling. They’ve dropped three in a row, including getting clobbered by the Patriots at home last Sunday, to fall to 2-4. Cleveland will try to right the ship when they face the AFC North rival Ravens. Baltimore is 3-3 with all three defeats coming after they blew late leads. JK Dobbins is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a knee injury.

New York Jets at Denver Broncos

The other team from NYC is also red-hot. The Jets have won three in a row to get to 4-2. A come-from-behind road win over the Steelers was followed by back-to-back double-digit upset wins over the Dolphins and Packers. New York will look to keep the momentum going when they face off with a disappointing Broncos club that enters at 2-4. Russell Wilson will sit out this week with a hamstring injury, and oddsmakers quickly adjusted for the Broncos starting Brett Rypien at QB. The Jets will likely close as road favorites.

Houston Texans at Las Vegas Raiders

The Texans entered last week’s bye celebrating their first victory of the season over the Jaguars. Lovie Smith has the club playing much better than expected, but the 1-3-1 record serves as the bottom line. Houston travels to take on a Raiders team that also had the week off. Las Vegas is 1-4 after letting one slip away against the Chiefs last time out. A playoff team a season ago, the Raiders need to get a move on if they hope to be in the hunt.

Seattle Seahawks at Los Angeles Chargers

At 3-3, the Seahawks are exceeding expectations. Geno Smith has also been a revelation while doing a solid job in the QB1 role. The defense played much better in last week’s win over the Cardinals, but the unit has also been exposed several times this year. A tough test looms as they travel to Los Angeles to face the 4-2 Chargers. Justin Herbert was held in check during last week’s win over the Broncos, but he remains a top passing threat in the league.

Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49ers

The Chiefs travel to take on the 49ers in one of the week’s featured matchups. The two clubs are in the mix of top big game contenders, but both are looking to rebound from disappointing losses last time out. Patrick Mahomes is one of the favorites for MVP once again, while San Francisco has upgraded the offense by acquiring Christian McCaffrey. The stage is set for what could be a great game between a pair of contenders.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Miami Dolphins

The Steelers rebounded from a blowout loss to the Bills in a big way with an upset win over the heavily-favored Buccaneers last Sunday. Kenny Pickett is expected to return after leaving last week’s game with a concussion. Tua Tagovailoa returns for a Dolphins team that has lost three straight in his absence. Once 3-0 and being viewed as a contender, the club now has ground to make up in the AFC wild card chase.

Chicago Bears at New England Patriots

The week closes out with a meeting of two clubs that are trending in opposite directions. The Bears have dropped three straight to fall to 2-4 and continue to struggle on offense. Justin Fields is dealing with a shoulder injury, a situation that bears monitoring. The Patriots have won two straight in convincing fashion to even the mark at 3-3. Mac Jones appears to be getting closer to a return. Bailey Zappe will get the nod if he’s unable to go.
