Lions Vs. 49ers NFC Championship Opening Odds: Point Spreads, Moneylines & Totals

The 49ers host another NFC North team during their quest to return to the Super Bowl, with the third-seeded Detroit Lions visiting in the NFC Championship this Sunday, Jan. 28, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara at 6:30 p.m. ET with FOX on the broadcast. Fanduel, one of the top football betting sites, has released opening odds for the game.

The Lions hosted their first playoff game in over 30 years in the Wild Card round, beat the Rams, then dispatched the NFC South champion Bucs in another home game. Detroit went 12-5 during the regular season en route to the franchise’s first NFC North title.

The 49ers cruised to the top seed in the NFC with a dominant six-game win streak, ending with a bad home loss to the Ravens. San Francisco had to come from behind to top Jordan Love and the Packers in the Divisional Round, with difference-making receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) knocked out early.

Lions vs. 49ers NFC Championship Betting Preview

San Francisco 49ers vs. Detroit Lions

The Lions showed promise during the latter half of last season with an 8-2 finish, capped by knocking the Packers out of the playoffs. The following year, Dan Campbell and Jared Goff met lofty preseason expectations by leading the Lions to a division crown. Detroit’s offensive line has been elite all season with right tackle Penei Sewell and center Frank Ragnow among the best run blockers in football. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery have formed a fearsome running back tandem and Amon-Ra St. Brown is one of the top receivers in football.

Detroit had lost nine straight playoff games prior to this postseason. That streak began with a 41-10 loss at Washington in the 1992 NFC Championship. The Lions have not won in San Francisco in the modern era, with their last win coming in 1975. Detroit is 6-18 against the 49ers since then, with the last matchup coming in 2021.

The 49ers have won five straight home playoff games and hold the NFL record with 19 appearances in the NFC Championship. The Niners have lost in three of their last four NFC Championship appearances, with each loss coming on the road. San Francisco beat Green Bay, 37-20, at home in 2020 to make the Super Bowl.

The Niners lost three straight in the middle of the season with Deebo Samuel and left tackle Trent Williams injured. Samuel (shoulder) is questionable to suit up after getting knocked out of the Divisional Round in the first quarter. The Niners are 46-20 with Samuel and 8-9 without him since 2019.
